Those days are, in fact, the reason I am sitting here now playing with agentic AI, back writing software for clients, rather than kicking it up somewhere in the Caribbean. That blow-up taught me the only lesson that ever really mattered: a position you cannot hold through being wrong is not a conviction, it is a time bomb. So everything I am about to describe is unleveraged, holdable, and survivable. I learned that part the hard way.

But here is the thing I have been avoiding.

Thanks for reading Fast Track Femme! In some respects it was exceptional. And I have not revisited it in about four years.

I have not stress-tested it. I have not gone back and asked whether the conditions that made it true are still the conditions I am living in. I just formed it, let it run, and watched it mostly play out the way I expected. Which is exactly the trap. A thesis you formed four years ago and never looked at again is not conviction anymore. It is inertia wearing conviction’s coat. My life has changed beyond recognition in those four years. It would be strange if my read on the world did not need at least a service.

So this is me, doing it in public, in real time. Not presenting a finished answer. Working it out on the page.

Tracing it backwards

It is very hard to describe how a position evolved going forwards. It is much easier to state where you ended up and then work out how you got there. So let me trace it back.

Where I landed was this. I decided, in the end, that fine-grained indicators are mostly noise, subject to so much compounding error that they are worse than useless. You need something simpler and directional. So I built my read around a small number of large forces, and I held it loosely enough to be directional rather than precise.

There were three layers to it.

The first was timing. After 2008, the world went into what I think of as a kick-the-can cycle. I had read somewhere that vast quantities of national debt need refinancing every few years, and because of that, the business cycle, as you can see it in something like the Purchasing Managers’ Index, stopped being random and started bobbling along in regular little molehills. Predictable rises and falls. That gave me a rough clock. Not direction on its own, just a sense of when to expect the market to amplify a move. Near the top of a molehill, expect more upside. In a trough, expect less, or a fall. Nothing precise. Just a rhythm.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

The timing layer. After 2008, the PMI stopped looking entirely random to me and began to resemble a rough refinancing-cycle clock: regular little molehills of expansion, caution and reset. It does not give direction by itself. It tells me when the market may be more likely to amplify whatever liquidity is already trying to do.

The second layer, and the real engine, was global liquidity. When there is more money in the system, it has to go somewhere, and it pushes assets up. When liquidity contracts, the tide goes out. I did not invent this. I am not that clever. I more or less stole the work of Michael Howell at CrossBorder Capital, whom I had watched talk many times and admired, and I tried as hard as I could to emulate his calculations and build something that looked roughly similar from the public data I could get my hands on. To this day, that liquidity model is still my primary driver of direction.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

The engine layer. The white line is the Nasdaq 100; the cloud is my custom global-liquidity model, built from public data and heavily influenced by Michael Howell’s work at CrossBorder Capital. The lower edge of the cloud is absolute liquidity. The green area is liquidity adjusted by bond-market volatility, which acts as the amplifier or damper. The point is not that liquidity alone predicts everything. It is that liquidity only becomes useful once fear, rates stress and volatility are allowed to modulate how much of that money can actually reach assets.

The third layer was the clever one, and it is the part that stops the whole thing being naive. Liquidity on its own would have told me, in March 2020, that markets should rise, because the world was being flooded with stimulus. But markets crashed first. The model has to account for that. Liquidity is necessary, but it does not reach the assets while fear and panic and uncertainty are high. The cash sits there, dammed up, while markets fall despite it. Then, as the panic resolves and a sense of predictable calm returns, the dammed-up liquidity floods in and markets explode upward. So the real signal was never liquidity on its own. It was liquidity adjusted for volatility. COVID was the clean proof of it. I have watched it again more recently with Trump and his tariffs: tariffs land, the world turns uncertain, markets tank, but the liquidity-adjusted reading says steady as she goes, and the recovery arrives almost exactly on cue.

That is the machine. A clock, an engine, and a damper. And for four years it has mostly worked.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

The part I absorbed rather than worked out

Here is where I have to be honest with myself, because the machine I have just described is neutral. Liquidity up, assets up. Liquidity down, assets down. It oscillates. It does not, on its own, tell you to be long and to stay long.

So why did I end up long, and holding?

Because underneath the machine there is a worldview, and I need to own where I got it. I went down the rabbit hole. The Bitcoin Standard, then von Mises, then Hayek, then Friedman, and then, God help me, I read Ayn Rand’s novels. All of them. For a while there I was a fully paid-up, hyphenated member of the libertarian-adjacent objectivist society. It was never the cleverest position in the world, and I have walked a good distance back from it since.

But here is what I will not do, because it is the lazy move in the other direction: I will not now pretend that because I absorbed a thesis as something close to a convert, the thesis is therefore wrong. Those are independent things. You can arrive at a true idea through a motivated, oversold pipeline. The pipeline oversells it. That does not make it false.

And the core of it is, I think, still true. It is the idea that fiat money is structurally biased toward debasement. Not because of a conspiracy, but because of incentives. Any institution that is only elected for five years will kick the can down the road, because can-kicking means deferring the hard, painful, unpopular decisions and appeasing whoever is loudest now. So deficits grow. The people at the top mostly know it is unsustainable, and mostly seem to be praying for some kind of miracle, which I suspect increasingly has the words “artificial intelligence” in it. But that is for another day. The point is that, barring something extraordinary, the long-run direction of liquidity is expansion. There may be periods of contraction along the way, but the bias is up.

You only have to look at how the world is actually playing out. Look at the state we have left young people in, mortgaged to the hilt to pay for a present they did not vote for. That is not ideology. That is the mechanism, visible in the data.

Can it go on forever? No. I read somewhere that the vast majority of fiat currencies in history have eventually gone to zero, and that the dollar has lost something like nine-tenths of its purchasing power in a century. I should say plainly that I first picked those figures up from Michael Saylor in my disciple days, and a stat you inherited from an evangelist is exactly the kind you should re-check before you lean on it, so treat them as directional until I have verified them properly. The direction, though, is not really in dispute. Money debases. The argument is only about pace.

So that is the thesis, traced back and laid bare. A neutral liquidity machine, pointed permanently upward by a debasement worldview I absorbed during a period of my life I now see more clearly. And for four years I have let it run without once asking whether the world it was built for is the world I am still in.

The fractures

When I actually turn the lens on it, I find three places where the thesis might be expiring, and they do not all point the same way. That is what makes this interesting rather than comforting.

Fracture one: the market has become a single bet

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

My liquidity model has no term in it for concentration. It assumes that if liquidity flows, it flows into “the market,” as if the market were a broad, diversified thing. It is no longer a broad, diversified thing.

As I write this, in June 2026, the Magnificent Seven are around 35 percent of the entire US market by value, up from about 12 percent a decade ago. In 2025, roughly 42 percent of the S&P 500’s total return came from those same seven companies. The top ten companies are about 38 percent of the index’s value and around 31 percent of its earnings, and by some measures the Mag Seven generate close to 70 percent of the economic profit of the whole index.

It gets starker when you look at the real economy rather than the market. By one Harvard estimate, data-center investment accounted for around 92 percent of US GDP growth in the first half of 2025, while being only about 4 percent of GDP. Strip out the AI infrastructure build, on that reading, and growth would have been roughly nothing. Other estimates are less extreme but tell the same story: AI infrastructure contributing something like half of all GDP growth, and a serious strategist or two suggesting that without it the economy might already be in recession.

So here is the problem the liquidity model cannot see. The entire market, and increasingly the entire economy, is leaning on one sector. A model that says “liquidity up, markets up” is blind to the possibility that the market has quietly become a single, concentrated bet, so that a real or even imagined wobble in that one sector cascades through everything regardless of what liquidity is doing. Liquidity can be ample and the thing can still fall fifty percent if the load-bearing wall cracks. I wrote yesterday about the eye-watering value being put on certain private AI-adjacent names. If one of those re-rates hard, the contagion does not care how much money is sloshing about.

This is the downside fracture. It is not in my model, and it is at a historic extreme.

Fracture two: the escape hatch that turns my thesis upside down

<a class="image-link AI productivity story is real. Suppose it delivers genuine, double-digit national productivity gains. Then follow the chain. Services improve without raising taxes. The cost of goods falls. Inflation falls. The deficit falls. And if the deficit falls, the structural pressure to debase, the very thing my whole directional bias rests on, goes away. Liquidity stops needing to expand. And by my own model, if liquidity stops expanding, markets can stop rising.

In other words, the one thing that could break my debasement thesis is not a disaster. It is the miracle working. The thesis is, at heart, a bet on dysfunction continuing. AI productivity is the one plausible cure for that dysfunction. Which leaves me in the slightly absurd position of running an investment thesis that bets against the very thing I now stake my professional life on. If the AI revolution does what its believers say, it falsifies me.

Fracture three: the contradiction inside the escape hatch

<a side.

Double-digit national productivity from AI does not arrive without enormous labour displacement. And if great swathes of people are displaced, you run straight into a question the productivity story never answers: who is buying all these cheaper, better goods and services? An economy of the unemployed does not consume its way through a productivity boom. Data centers, famously, employ almost no one once they are built. The capex props up GDP without creating the wage-earning consumer base that GDP ultimately depends on.

So what happens? The state steps in. You inherit a colossal social bill, some flavour of universal basic income, to keep a displaced population solvent and consuming. And that means the liquidity comes roaring back, just wearing a different costume. Not deficit-financed can-kicking this time, but mass transfers funded by the printer because the alternative is destitution. The debasement does not die. It simply changes its justification.

Which means the direction of my thesis, up, might be more robust than the reasoning that got me there. I may have been right about the destination for entirely the wrong reasons, and the destination may survive even as those reasons collapse. That is an uncomfortable kind of correct.

I have very strong feelings about UBI, by the way, and almost none of them are warm. But that is a whole essay of its own, and I am not going to let it hijack this one. Another time.

What this is really about

There is a political reading that sits underneath all of this, and I will keep it to an aside because it is symptom, not cause. As ordinary people get squeezed harder, they go to the extremes, left and right alike. I called this ten years ago, and you can see it now in the rise of Reform and the Greens in the UK. I suspect both will get their turn in or near government, and I suspect it will not make a blind bit of difference, because the problems are structural and far too big for either of them. That matters to my thesis only because political extremism is evidence that the pressure behind the debasement ratchet is intensifying, not resolving. The populists, whoever they are, will spend more, not less.

So where does that leave me?

The engine still works. Liquidity adjusted for volatility still describes how money moves into assets, and I see no reason to doubt the plumbing. The direction, up, still lives today. I genuinely cannot name its end date, and I am not going to pretend I can. But the reasoning I bolted underneath that direction was absorbed during a chapter of my life I now read differently, and there are at least three things my four-year-old model simply cannot price: a concentration so extreme that the market has become one bet, a productivity shock that could cure the dysfunction I am betting against, and the contradiction inside that shock that might quietly reinstall the same upward bias under a new name.

And there is one more thing the model cannot handle, which is the speed of all this. My whole timing layer assumes a stately rhythm, the gentle molehills of a slower world. An exponential change does not respect that rhythm. We are, all of us, terrible at feeling exponential change before it arrives. A thesis calibrated to the slow world has no machinery for a fast one.

So the honest position is not “I was wrong.” It is narrower and more useful than that. I was directionally right for the regime I formed the thesis in. I can no longer assume that regime is the one I am now standing in.

Thanks for reading Fast Track Femme! It has been a ride.

Thanks for reading Fast Track Femme! It was not the liquidity cycle whispering to me. It was the rather less glamorous fact that my client is late paying an invoice, and I found myself a little nervous about funding my upcoming vocal surgery, which has to be paid for, in full, very soon, and does not care in the slightest whether a university finance department is having a contemplative month.

So I took a slice off the table. Margin of safety. Surgery funded, nerves settled.

And then, sitting there having done it, the full ridiculousness of my own life landed on me.

My MicroStrategy trades paid for my face, my arse, my tits, and my vagina.

And now WULF has paid for my voice.

I am, quite literally, a WULF in sheep’s clothing.

There is a serious point buried in here, and then I will get out of your way. Most of my writing in this section is about long-term conviction, about holding a position through the nausea, about not selling the thing you believe in just because the price got uncomfortable. All of that still stands. But the other half of the discipline, the unglamorous half, is this: sometimes you take the trade because you need to take the trade. A dated, must-happen, real-world obligation does not negotiate with a chart. When the money has a job to do and the job has a deadline, you ring-fence the money and you let the rest run. The winner you held for two years can spare a slice to make sure the thing that actually matters is paid for.

I held WULF unleveraged the whole way precisely so that a moment like this would be a calm decision and not a crisis. That is the entire point of not using leverage. It means that when life sends you an invoice, you get to choose when to sell, rather than having the choice made for you at the worst possible moment.

Anyway. The conviction made the gains. Life decided where they went.

Face, arse, tits, vagina, voice.

Worth every cent.

Thanks for reading Fast Track Femme! And I’ll be honest with you, there was a little feeling at the back of my mind the whole time. The one that says: are you one hundred percent sure you have absolutely no interest in this? Are you certain you’re not about to watch the greatest wealth-creation event of the decade sail past you while you stand there with your arms folded, being clever?

Thanks for reading Fast Track Femme! It’s not insight. It’s the crowd’s tug. It’s the motion of the herd starting to foam and froth at the mouth at the idea of spectacular returns, and it pulls at you precisely because everyone around you is leaning the same way. The analysts queue up to tell you what Google did. What Amazon did. What you’d have made if you’d bought Nvidia in 2015 and gone to sleep for a decade. The pull is real and I felt it.

But I had a separate take. I wouldn’t claim it’s the most original take in the world. It’s just mine, and this is what it is.

The value was extracted before it ever came near me.

Let me show you what I mean, because this isn’t a feeling, it’s an arithmetic.

In May of last year, a private tender valued SpaceX at around three hundred and fifty billion dollars. By December, an insider sale put it near eight hundred billion. In February, the xAI merger bundled the whole thing up at one and a quarter trillion. And when it finally walked onto the Nasdaq two days ago, it priced at a valuation of one and three quarter trillion, popped nineteen percent on day one, and closed the week worth somewhere north of two trillion dollars.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" entirely in private hands over thirteen months. By the time you and I were allowed to put a hand up, the staircase had already been climbed. We weren’t being offered the climb. We were being offered the view from the top, and asked to pay for the privilege of standing there.

And then I realised what it actually reminded me of. Not a shitcoin in the fraudulent sense. SpaceX is not a fraud. Starlink is real, the rockets are real. But the mechanics of the launch, the plumbing, were borrowed wholesale from the world of crypto token launches, and once I saw it I couldn’t unsee it. Three things in particular.

Vesting - A classic shitcoin move

The first is vesting. In a token launch, the people with access don’t get all their coins on day one. They get a small slice unlocked at the start, and then a vesting schedule drips the rest out over months or years, on a calendar. SpaceX did exactly this. It didn’t use the normal single lockup that lifts after six months. It built a tiered release where insiders can sell seven percent of their holdings at each of a series of dates, starting around seventy days in and laddering out from there. And here is the tell. That structure was not built to protect people like me. It was engineered to expand the public float fast enough to maximise the company’s weighting in the Nasdaq index, which in turn forces index funds to buy the stock whether they want to or not. The drip is not a safety feature. It’s a demand-manufacturing machine.

Super Low Float - THE classic shitcoin move

The second is the low float. In crypto they call it low float, high fully-diluted-valuation. You release a tiny fraction of the supply, you let a stampede of demand crash into that tiny fraction, and the price that results gets multiplied across all the locked tokens nobody can sell yet, to print an enormous headline valuation. SpaceX sold roughly seven percent. It was oversubscribed by more than four hundred percent. A tiny slice against a wall of demand. That is the low-float playbook, executed at the largest scale in the history of public markets.

Retail Lock In

The third is the one that genuinely made me sit up, because it’s the one that gives the game away. The selling restrictions. I’d half-remembered that retail couldn’t just freely sell, and I went and checked, and it’s worse than I thought, though not in the way I assumed. Retail could technically sell on the open market. But the brokers handing out the shares attached anti-flipping penalties to them. Sell your Fidelity allocation inside fifteen days and you can be locked out of future IPOs. SoFi runs a thirty-day window and escalates to a permanent ban for repeat offenders, and will charge you fifty quid for the privilege. And the threat with teeth is that flipping your SpaceX shares could cost you your allocation in the OpenAI and Anthropic floats still to come. So picture the asymmetry. The insiders have a vesting calendar that lets them sell on schedule into the demand. The retail buyer is threatened with exile for trying to take profit in the same window. One side has a structured exit. The other side has a leash.

And then, underneath all of it, the part almost nobody is talking about. A large chunk of SpaceX shares are held through special-purpose vehicles, stacked two and three tiers deep. When the lockup lifts for the top-layer vehicle, it has thirty days to pass shares down to its investors, who then pass them down again. The people at the bottom of that stack won’t even know what they truly hold until months after the public calendar says it’s done, and they’re exposed to hidden fees and delays along the way. If you have ever watched a token launch unwind, you know exactly what that shape is. It’s the tiered bagholder. The further down the stack you sit, the later you find out what you’re actually holding, and the more of it has already been decided above your head.

That was the moment the feeling became a conviction. None of this is illegal. None of it is even unusual any more. But it is borrowed, beat for beat, from a world I watched eat retail alive only a few years ago. Tiny float. Vesting drip. Restricted exits for the little guy and scheduled exits for the big one. I have seen this film. I know how it ends for the person who shows up late and excited.

There’s one more thing in the parcel worth naming, because it’s the bit that stops you valuing the thing cleanly even if you wanted to. You cannot buy SpaceX. You think you can, but you can’t. What you can buy is a bundle. Inside it is Starlink, a genuinely excellent business and the only profitable segment in the whole enterprise. Inside it is the rocket company, extraordinary and lumpy and hard to value. And stapled on in February at a quarter of a trillion dollars is xAI. Grok. The former Twitter. A money-incinerating AI operation that, in 2025, contributed about three billion in revenue while burning roughly fourteen billion in cash, consuming more cash by itself than every other part of SpaceX generates. The combined company turned a tidy profit in 2024 into a five billion dollar loss in 2025, and the entire swing is xAI. So you can’t price the rocket cleanly, you can’t buy the satellite business on its own, and the whole thing has to be swallowed as one act of faith. That isn’t an accident of how the company grew. That’s the package, as designed.

Now, in fairness, the bulls aren’t fools and I’m not going to pretend they are. The serious independent valuations put fair value well below where it’s trading, somewhere around a third of today’s price, and the bull case openly admits this is three moonshots in one company that only works if most of them land. You can read those numbers for yourself. I won’t labour them, because they’re not actually what decides it for me.

What decides it for me is simpler, and it’s two separate questions that everyone insists on collapsing into one.

Do I believe in the rocket company, as a rocket company? God, yes. Completely. I want him to do this. I am genuinely, childishly excited to see whether he can put data centres in orbit, whether Starship becomes routine, whether the whole improbable thing works. If you’re asking me whether I believe in SpaceX, I’m in the front row, cheering.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

But that is not the question the IPO is asking me. my writing, you will know I usually write about transition, grief, family, identity, reinvention, and the general circus of trying to become yourself while everyone else has an opinion about it.

This piece is about investing, Bitcoin, MicroStrategy, European regulation, and the slightly absurd question of what to do next with a trade that worked far better than it had any right to.

I have pitched it at the level I understand it myself. That may mean some readers find it too technical, and some finance people find it insufficiently dressed up in expensive nonsense. I am fine with both outcomes.

The point is not to offer investment advice. It is to think out loud about conviction, risk, changing your mind, and the moment when the instrument that once expressed your thesis cleanly becomes more complicated than the thesis itself.

If that is not your thing, I entirely understand. I will be back to emotional devastation, jokes about facial surgery, and transgender life in rural Ireland shortly.

I used to write Pine Script algorithms. Not the simple kind that draws moving averages on a chart and calls it a system, with two shitty little EMAs and a bit of colouring in (CTO Larrson, you know who you are. A thousand quid you charge for that piece of shit I could code in 4 minutes) .The deranged kind. Liquidity models driven by bond volatility, technical overlays cascaded through three timeframes, custom indicators feeding custom indicators, a trading rig that looked like the cockpit of something NASA would politely decline to launch.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" Both required almost no active management. Both came from being directionally right about something most consensus opinion at the time was directionally wrong about. Neither required any of the elaborate instrumentation I’d spent years building.

This is not a coincidence. The relationship between thesis simplicity and outcome durability is, in my experience, almost monotonic. The cleaner the thesis, the better the trade. The more elaborate the structure required to express it, the more likely the structure itself becomes the failure point.

Which brings me to MicroStrategy now.

The original thesis

In 2022 the MicroStrategy thesis was beautiful in its simplicity. Saylor had decided to use the corporate treasury to buy Bitcoin. The company’s market capitalisation traded at a premium to the Bitcoin it held, which let him issue new equity at that premium and use the proceeds to buy more Bitcoin, which made each existing share back more Bitcoin than it had before. The flywheel was self-reinforcing as long as the premium held. Retail investors who could not easily buy Bitcoin directly, most institutional brokerage accounts, most retirement wrappers, most European retail platforms, could buy MSTR instead and get leveraged Bitcoin exposure through a NASDAQ-listed equity.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" Never sell. Buy with every available capital instrument. Treat Bitcoin as the corporate treasury reserve asset. Twenty-one statements on the public record between 2020 and 2025, ranging from the corporate, “we will not sell”, to the personal, “sell a kidney before you sell your Bitcoin”.

The thesis worked because the doctrine was rigid. The flywheel worked because the premium was high. The premium was high because the doctrine was rigid. Each element reinforced the others.

I bought at thirteen dollars because the thesis was clear, the operator was credible, and the asymmetry was obvious. I held through every drawdown. I took twenty-five percent off at four hundred and twenty-eight dollars, which funded my facial feminisation surgery and several other things I needed money for. I kept the rest.

Then, on the fifth of May 2026, on the Q1 earnings call, Saylor said the company would sell Bitcoin to fund preferred share dividends.

In a single sentence, five years of doctrine evaporated.

The new architecture

The reason for the reversal is in the financial statements. Strategy posted a twelve and a half billion dollar net loss in Q1 2026, the third consecutive loss-making quarter. The mNAV premium that powered the original flywheel has compressed from a peak of around 2.6x to roughly 1.19x. Common stock has been diluted by three hundred and thirteen percent since 2020, the largest dilution of any ten-billion-dollar-plus US company by an order of magnitude. The next worst is Wayfair at thirty percent.

The flywheel stopped working because the premium stopped existing. Without a premium, new equity issuance is dilutive in Bitcoin-per-share terms rather than accretive. The original mechanism is structurally broken.

So Saylor invented a new one. Instead of issuing common equity against a premium that no longer exists, he is issuing perpetual preferred shares paying ten to eleven and a half percent dividends, using the proceeds to buy Bitcoin, and relying on Bitcoin’s long-term appreciation to outrun the dividend obligations. The instruments have names like Strike, Strife, Stride and Stretch, STRK, STRF, STRD, STRC, and a new euro-denominated Stream class called STRE. He calls this “Bitcoin yield” and frames the architecture as a three-layer capital stack of digital capital plus digital credit plus digital money.

Mathematically the model is self-sustaining if Bitcoin appreciates at more than about 2.3% annually. The marketing is sophisticated. The packaging is professional. The pitch is delivered with Saylor’s familiar evangelical confidence.

It is, structurally, a worse product than the one that existed before.

Not because the math is wrong. The math probably works in most scenarios. It is a worse product because it introduces fixed cash outflows that have to be funded regardless of Bitcoin’s price, because it inserts a layer of senior claimants ahead of common shareholders, because it depends on Bitcoin appreciating reliably enough to outrun the dividends, and because it replaces a simple thesis with a complicated capital stack. The old MSTR was “Bitcoin with leverage.” The new MSTR is “Bitcoin-backed structured credit with embedded volatility smoothing and preferred dividend obligations.” These are different products. The first one made me “richer”. The second one I have no particular interest in.

This is the meta-point. Being right about the underlying thesis does not mean staying with the original instrument. Bitcoin still goes up over a decade with volatility. That part of my thesis is intact. But the cleanest expression of that view is no longer MSTR. It is direct Bitcoin, or it is spot Bitcoin ETFs, or it is the new generation of physically-backed European Bitcoin ETPs. The instrument has become more complicated than the thesis requires. When that happens, the rational move is to step back to a cleaner instrument.

Which brings me to the European regulator

There is, of course, a problem.

The cleanest instruments for expressing the Bitcoin view are not always available to me. US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs are mostly unavailable to European retail investors. The new Saylor preferred shares are unavailable too. European investor protection rules block retail investors from buying products that do not provide the correct European documentation, in theory to protect consumers from products they do not understand. In practice it means I can be blocked from buying instruments that are simpler, cleaner and better aligned with my actual thesis, while still being allowed to hold or sell more complicated positions I already own.

In my Irish pension account, I already hold MicroStrategy. I bought it early, held it through extraordinary volatility, and sold a slice near the highs. When it later fell sharply, I wanted to buy some back, and discovered I no longer could. I was allowed to sell the position, but not rebuild it.

<picture></picture>

<g>

</g><polyline points="15 3 21 3 21 9"></polyline><polyline points="9 21 3 21 3 15"></polyline><line x1="21" x2="14" y1="3" y2="10"></line><line x1="3" x2="10" y1="21" y2="14"></line>

So the position has become a one-way door. I am not being protected from risk. I am being prevented from choosing the cleaner version of a risk I already understand. Not by building some baroque structure of my own. The opposite, actually. By simplifying.

What I am actually doing

The strategy I have settled on is straightforward and probably sensible.

Trim the WULF position further. The thesis has substantially played out, the price has run, the asymmetry that made the original trade interesting is largely gone. Keep a residual position because the AI infrastructure tailwind has further to run, but rotate the bulk of the gains into something cleaner.

Restructure the UK MSTR position partially. Rotate perhaps two-thirds of it into UK-listed physically-backed Bitcoin ETPs, the WisdomTree Physical Bitcoin product, or 21Shares Bitcoin Core. These are EU-compliant, retail-accessible, low-cost, and they express the underlying Bitcoin view without the structural overhead of Saylor’s yield architecture. The regulation has made the decision for me. It rides as a tax-free long-term hold inside the pension wrapper. The forced inability to trade it is, in this specific case, probably increasing my net wealth by preventing me from acting on impulses I might otherwise act on.

Deploy the dormant cash sitting in the Irish account into the same Bitcoin ETP, assuming the broker confirms availability inside the pension structure. The tax-free compounding inside the wrapper is doing real work. Leaving it in cash is the worst possible use of that wrapper.

This is not exciting. It is not Pine Script. It is not running synthetic spreads or building API adapters or any of the other elaborate technical work I used to do. It is taking a long-held conviction, recognising that the original instrument no longer expresses it optimally, and quietly migrating to a cleaner expression of the same view.

Which is, in the end, what most good investing actually looks like. The exciting part is identifying the thesis. The unexciting part is the long patient hold. The boring part is the periodic restructuring when the instrument no longer fits the thesis.

The broader problem

And this is where the problem becomes bigger than MicroStrategy.

I know, intellectually, that I need to move away from being so heavily tilted towards Bitcoin, Bitcoin proxies, Bitcoin miners, Bitcoin-adjacent infrastructure, and all the other strange little gravitational bodies orbiting the same central sun.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" US equities look expensive. AI infrastructure names look expensive. The obvious compounders look expensive. The safe things look boring. The interesting things look crowded. And the things that are not crowded are usually not crowded for reasons I discover about ten minutes after looking at them.

So I keep coming back to the same test.

If I did not already own this today, would I buy it today?

That is the only question that really matters. Not whether I once had a good thesis. Not whether the trade worked. Not whether I am emotionally attached to the position because it paid for half the reconstruction of my head. If I were sitting in cash today, with no history, no attachment, no sunk cost, no victory lap, would I buy this thing now?

With WULF, the answer is probably: not in the same size.

With MSTR, the answer is: partly, but not as the cleanest expression of the Bitcoin thesis anymore.

With direct Bitcoin or physically-backed Bitcoin ETPs, the answer is still: yes, probably.

But the annoying complication is that my Irish position does not quite fit this clean little philosophical test. Because if I sell it, I may not be able to buy it back. That changes the decision. It turns the position into something closer to a one-way valve. I am not just asking, “Would I buy this today?” I am asking, “Would I give up the right to own this inside this wrapper, possibly forever?”

That is a different question.

And then there is the more human problem, which is that I understand this world. I understand Bitcoin. I understand the reflexivity. I understand the cultishness, the capital flows, the balance sheet games, the miners, the treasury companies, the volatility, the stupidity, the mania, and the opportunity buried somewhere underneath all of it.

I do not have that same edge in healthcare, industrials, consumer staples, biotech, banks, Japan, emerging markets, or whatever else I am supposed to rotate into like a sensible adult with a Morningstar subscription.

So yes, I probably need to broaden out.

But broadening out is not the same as blindly buying things I do not understand just because my current concentration makes me uncomfortable. Diversification is sensible. Diworsification is not. The fact that I am overexposed to one area does not automatically make every other area attractive.

That is the real problem now.

The trade worked. The instrument changed. The regulation interfered. The thesis survived, but its cleanest expression moved. And I am left with the most irritating investing question of all: not “Was I right?” but “What do I do next, now that being right is no longer enough?”

The trade that made me rich is now a trade I am not legally allowed to make. The regulator has decided I need protecting from products I understand. Saylor has decided to make his products too complicated for me to want anyway. Either way, the era is over.

The next thesis will come along, and when it does, the lesson is the same. Keep it simple. Hold it long. Ask whether you would buy it again today. Do not confuse loyalty to a position with loyalty to a thesis. And whatever you do, do not build forty different Pine Script indicators to confirm what you already know.

Thanks for reading Fast Track Femme! In fact, I added to my position slightly in 2024 and then proceeded quickly to lose money

Now here’s the funny thing:

I hadn’t looked at the Wulf chart properly in about a year.

Which is ironic because I actually own a decent-sized position in it.

And dear sweet Jesus mother of God.

The thing was sitting around $22.

I originally bought most of those shares around the $1 area.

At first I genuinely thought I was reading the chart wrong.

I actually had one of those:

“Hang on… surely not…”

moments.

But no.

The thesis had worked.

Very, very well.

And that suddenly made me realise that almost nobody reading this Substack has any idea that behind all the transgender writing and voice surgery posts there is also:

a software architect,

an obsessive systems thinker,

and somebody who has spent years building giant insane charts trying to understand how money moves around the world.

So let me explain the basic thesis.

And I promise to explain this in normal human language rather than finance-wanker language.

My Core Thesis Is Actually Very Simple

Governments are trapped.

That’s basically it.

Most people instinctively feel that something is wrong economically now.

Even if they don’t know the technical explanation, they feel it.

People feel like:

wages don’t stretch,

houses are impossible,

food prices are absurd,

saving money feels pointless,

and somehow everything gets more expensive while politicians keep insisting things are “resilient.”

And my view was that this wasn’t random.

The value of money itself is slowly being diluted over time.

Why?

Because governments owe absolutely staggering amounts of debt.

And there are really only a few ways out of giant debt problems:

Default.

Raise taxes massively.

Inflate the debt away over time.

Governments hate Option 1 because societies tend to become rather upset during financial collapse.

They also hate Option 2 because voters become unexpectedly hostile when taxed into the Stone Age.

So most governments drift toward Option 3.

And this is the important bit:

If you create more money over time, the debt becomes easier to manage because the money itself slowly becomes worth less.

That sounds complicated, but you already understand it intuitively.

Your grandparents could often buy a house on one ordinary salary.

Now two professionals can barely afford a shed near a motorway while eating hummus under candlelight trying to save on electricity bills.

The money changed.

That was the thing I became obsessed with.

Because once I started seeing the world through that lens, loads of things suddenly made sense.

Why rich people buy assets.

Why stock markets recover eventually.

Why governments panic when markets fall too hard.

Why “money printing” never really stops for very long.

And yes, economists reading this are probably now screaming:

“THIS IS A HORRIFIC OVERSIMPLIFICATION.”

Correct.

This is Substack.

Not the Bank of England.

Then Came Bitcoin

Now I need to say something important here.

I think a huge amount of crypto is complete rubbish.

Honestly, some of it is outright clownery. I’m a software engineer, and about two years ago, I actually looked in detail, technically, how some of it worked. And sweet Jesus, what a load of bollocks.

During the Sam Bankman-Fried era especially, the entire space started looking like:

fraud,

monkey JPEGs,

ketamine,

influencer cults,

And to be fair, a lot of it is still like that today.

I personally managed to lose a horrifying amount of money leverage-trading crypto altcoins because I temporarily convinced myself I was a trading genius.

I was not.

I was occasionally just a frightened middle-aged closeted transgender software engineer staring at charts at 2am while financially waterboarding myself.

But despite all that madness, I still thought Bitcoin itself was real.

Not perfect.

Not magical.

Not a religion.

But real.

Because unlike governments, Bitcoin had hard supply rules.

There would only ever be so many of them.

That mattered enormously to me in a world where governments seemed structurally incapable of stopping money creation long term.

The Big Realisation

At the point where everybody thought crypto was dead forever after the collapses and scandals, I started looking at the bigger picture instead.

And the bigger picture seemed pretty obvious to me:

Governments were still creating money.

Markets were still recovering.

People still wanted somewhere to store value.

And Bitcoin had survived yet another apocalypse.

So I started thinking:

“If governments cannot stop inflating currencies long term, and Bitcoin survives culturally and technically, then this thing probably goes much higher eventually.”

Not in a straight line.

Dear God, not in a straight line.

Bitcoin is insanely volatile. It can make you feel like a genius on Monday, a ruined idiot by Wednesday, and a prophet again by Friday afternoon.

To hold it properly, or to hold things linked to it, you need balls of steel.

Which is ironic, given that my transition removed mine.

But the underlying idea was simple:

Bitcoin behaved less like ordinary money and more like an extremely volatile technology stock with rocket fuel strapped to it.

And if I was right about governments continuing to water down money over time, then assets like Bitcoin, and companies tied to Bitcoin, could do extremely well.

The trick was surviving the madness without getting shaken out.

Or, in my case, without simultaneously making stupid side-bets with borrowed money and turning perfectly survivable mistakes into financial house fires.

The Weird Charts

At this point I should confess that I write code, invent maths, and use both to create absolutely deranged financial charts for fun.

Not professionally.

Not for hedge funds.

Just because my brain likes systems.

So I started building charts that tried to answer one very simple question:

“How much money is sloshing around the world right now, and how scared is everyone while it’s happening?”

That’s basically all my “global liquidity” charts are.

They’re giant nerdy attempts to measure:

how much fuel exists in the system,
AND

whether the world currently feels calm or like it’s about to catch fire.

Because eventually I realised something important:

Markets don’t just rise because money exists.

They rise because people feel safe enough to take risks.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" years ago. It predicts what the stock market is going to do based upon how much money there is in the world and how calm the world is. This is my guiding principle. That big green cloud tells me things are looking good right now. Not perfect, but looking good. In fact, the more the cloud goes up, the more the market goes down, the more chance there is to buy, in my opinion. Not financial advice....

Fear interrupts everything.

That’s why markets can still crash even while governments are effectively still pumping money into the system.

And honestly, when I overlay some of my charts with political events, it’s occasionally hilarious.

You can practically see moments where markets collectively say:

“Oh Christ. What has Donald Trump done now?”

The Trade That Changed My Life

Then came MicroStrategy.

MicroStrategy was, on paper, a funny little software company.

Then it decided it would be fun to borrow billions of dollars and use the money to buy Bitcoin.

A lot of people thought this was absolutely crazy.

I did not.

To me, it looked like one of the cleanest ways to express the whole thesis.

If governments were going to keep watering down money, and if Bitcoin was going to benefit from that, then a company aggressively buying Bitcoin could become a kind of amplified Bitcoin bet.

Not quite Bitcoin.

Not quite a normal software company.

Something stranger.

At the time, it was also basically one of the easiest ways for traditional stock-market money to “buy” Bitcoin exposure.

And that mattered.

Because if you were, say, the CFO of a company, a pension fund, or some boring institution and you said:

“Hello, we’d like to buy some Bitcoin, please,”

that was a governance nightmare.

Custody.

Compliance.

Risk committees.

Auditors.

Board approval.

Everyone fainting into a spreadsheet.

But if you said:

“Can we buy some MicroStrategy stock?”

That was much easier.

Because MicroStrategy was just a listed company. You could buy it through a normal brokerage account, inside normal investment systems, using the same plumbing people already understood.

And I knew there would be a lot of people in that position.

In fact, I was one of them.

I bought MicroStrategy inside my pension because I couldn’t easily buy Bitcoin there directly.

So my thinking was simple:

“There must be loads of smart people who want Bitcoin exposure but aren’t allowed to buy Bitcoin itself. If Bitcoin starts going up again, some of that money is going to look for the nearest acceptable doorway.”

And for a while, MicroStrategy was one of the biggest doorways.

It behaved like a kind of leveraged Bitcoin proxy without me personally needing to use leverage.

And after my adventures in leverage-induced self-destruction, that distinction mattered enormously.

So I bought a lot. A LOT at $13.

<a class="image-link image2 is-viewable-img" target="_blank" transition.

That is why I am “Bitcoin Bitch™”.

Which means that somewhere in an alternative universe there is a sentence that reads:

“Michael Saylor, their CEO, indirectly helped pay for Stevie Bennett’s vaginoplasty.”

History is strange.

I still hold most of the position today.

Not because I think Bitcoin is risk free.

Not because I think it only goes up.

But because the original thesis still broadly makes sense to me.

And because these are spot positions.

No borrowed money risk.

That was probably the single biggest lesson of all this.

Borrowed-money bets nearly destroyed me. Owning things outright changed my life.

The Actual Lesson

The funniest thing about all of this is that my investing was genuinely excellent.

My trading was absolutely appalling.

And I think I finally understand why.

Trading requires:

precision,

timing,

emotional neutrality,

and the ability to admit you’re wrong instantly.

Investing is different.

Investing is about understanding the world you think you’re living in and then surviving long enough for the thesis to either work or fail.

Apparently I’m much better at that.

Which is fortunate really.

Because surviving long enough to become myself has basically been the story of my entire life.

Finally, Before Anyone Asks

And finally, because I know exactly what somebody is going to ask:

“Stevie, what would you buy right now?”

I hate that question.

I really, really hate that question.

Because the moment you answer it, it starts sounding dangerously like financial advice, and I absolutely do not want anybody making financial decisions because some transgender woman on Substack told them she paid for her transition with Bitcoin-adjacent chaos.

So let me be very clear:

This is not financial advice.

I am not your financial adviser.

I am not even sure I should be my own financial adviser.

I am a woman who has made some very good long-term investments and also, at various points, traded crypto with borrowed firepower like an absolute idiot.

That said, since people will ask, I still like Tesla.

I have always liked Tesla.
<div
