An enjoyable read and I saw a lot of myself in your description of you (except for the bit about looking fantastic and living the dream which came across loud and clear in the photo!).

I guess the question these days is what is Pride actually for? An excuse for the corporate community to jazz up their normally bland logos with all of the colours of the rainbow (except in the Middle East where that sort of thing is frowned upon!)? A debauchfest that would make even the patrons of the Blue Oyster Club (always loved 'Police Academy'!) blush? The problem is that it's now starting to alienate the very people - in other words the general population - that had previously been won over. I am of course being cynical but when we see even those organisations that had previously been enthusiastic supporters having second thoughts and reining back, we need to pay attention.

Our rainbow haired friend in Boots could be a poster child for this. I'm sure that every month is Pride month for them; the fact that they're happy to be out and proud at any time of the year just goes to show how far we've come. Circumstances dictate that I am very part time as far as my feminine side is concerned and, in the absence of HRT and surgeries, I live or die by my makeup skills (where it's a miracle that I'm still alive given how atrocious my uncorrected eyesight is) and my outfit choices (which fortunately are sufficiently reasonable to divert attention away from my makeup 'skills') but it seems like every time I step out into the world, I have truly wonderful encounters from people who not only immediately realise my 'provenance' but in some cases seem positively excited by the chance to deal with a trans person. Granted, not everywhere is as accepting as south east England and through the blur of my uncorrected eyesight, I have seen a few smirks and scowls but I do my best to leave everyone I encounter with a positive view of our sector of the population.

Sadly, that's something that Pride is increasingly struggling to achieve.
